The Gudenå Trail stage 2 - Tørring – Rask Mølle
This 12 km stage of the Gudenå Trail takes you between the small towns of Tørring and Uldum. Most of the route passes through Denmark’s largest fen area, Uldum Kær, where you will encounter a truly distinctive landscape and rich wildlife.

Walking through the fen landscape
On this stage of the Gudenå Trail, you walk through flat and open countryside. However, the walk is by no means dull, as you pass through the 1,200-hectare protected natural area of Uldum Kær. This vast wetland, the largest in Denmark, connects the towns of Tørring, Uldum, Ølholm, Rask Mølle and Aale. The area is made accessible by wooden boardwalks and well-marked paths, and there are excellent opportunities for circular walks if you wish to explore the unique nature of the fen in more depth.
About the route
This stage is 12 kilometres long. The surface alternates between asphalt, gravel tracks and natural paths. Close to the towns, there are mainly paved sections, where you may also encounter traffic. In Uldum Kær, there are many natural paths as well as the characteristic wooden boardwalks found along much of the Gudenå Trail. During and after periods of heavy rainfall, sections here may be wet, so consider your choice of footwear.
Canoeing on the Gudenå River begins in Tørring, as the river becomes wide enough for navigation at this point. As a walker, you can therefore greet passing canoeists along the way.
The route is generally not suitable for people with limited mobility, wheelchair users or pushchairs. In particular, the central part of Uldum Kær, with its natural paths and boardwalks, may include steps and difficult sections. However, if gravel roads are an acceptable surface, it is possible to travel from Tørring to Verdens Ende.
Transport and accommodation
The stage starts and ends in the towns of Tørring and Rask Mølle. Here, you can stock up on supplies in local supermarkets, and public transport is also available. From Tørring, there are bus connections to both Horsens and Vejle, while in Rask Mølle you can take bus 114 back to Tørring or onwards to Horsens. Please note that some departures on this route may be flexible bus services that must be booked in advance. This can be done via Rejseplanen. It is also possible to book a flex trip to a chosen destination where no bus service is available, also via Rejseplanen.
During the summer period, the free shuttle bus, Modstrømsbussen, operates along this part of the Gudenå River. To use Modstrømsbussen on this stretch, you must continue your journey to Aale, from where you can catch the bus once daily back to the starting point of the route at Tørring Camping.
At Tørring Camping, you can stay overnight in a cabin, go glamping, or pitch your own tent. It is also possible to book a room at Karensdal B&B near Uldum.

You may also choose to visit Uldum Mølle Museum, which features an interesting exhibition on the peat cutting that took place in the fen area for many years. Here, you can also see the bog body known as the “Uldum Girl”. A side route from the Gudenå Trail (signposted with yellow arrows) leads to the museum.
