Aale Teltplads

This combined tent and shelter site is an ideal overnight spot for your canoe, hiking or cycling trip along the Gudenå River.

Overnight stay by the Gudenå River

If you are paddling a canoe all the way along the Gudenå River, Aale Teltplads (Campsite) will be the first you pass after setting off in Tørring. The campsite has its own launch site, making it easy to get in and out of the water. The site was created with canoeists in mind, who can either spend the night here or take a break, but hikers and cyclists are also very welcome to use it.

Facilities at the site

In addition to tent camping, there are also two shelters at the site, available on a first come, first served basis. The tent area is located right next to the river, while the two shelters are about 50 metres inland. Both the tent area and the shelters are equipped with benches and a fire pit. Firewood is provided free of charge for overnight guests in the woodshed. Close to the shelters there is a toilet building with access to water. Behind the toilet building you will find covered benches where you can sit in shelter from the rain. In addition to the toilet building, which is open during the season, there is also a composting toilet.

Price and practical information

It costs 45 DKK per person to spend the night at Aale Teltplads. This applies whether you stay in the shelters or pitch your tent. Payment is collected by the camp host in the evening. Tents must be placed at least three metres apart. Dogs are allowed, but they must always be kept on a lead. Please respect other guests and keep noise to a minimum. There is parking available at the campsite, but as the site is intended for canoeists, cyclists and walkers, you are kindly asked not to drive here to stay overnight. The car park is for collecting canoes and guests.

During the summer season, the Gudenå Bus (Modstrømsbussen) stops at Aale Teltplads. The bus makes it possible to walk, cycle or paddle along the Gudenå River and take the bus back to your starting point.

Around the campsite

Aale Teltplads is located by the village of Aale, about 10 kilometres north-east of Tørring, where many people choose to begin their canoe trip. Aale has around 600 inhabitants but no shops. The nearest shopping option is in Rask Mølle, which can be reached on a beautiful hike through Rask Forest, bordering the campsite. It is about 2.5 kilometres to Rask Mølle – simply follow Gudenåvej eastwards from the campsite. There is also a marked hiking trail leading through the forest. Next to the forest you can also explore the old fortress site, Boringholm.

In Rask Mølle you will find the Gudenå Trail (GudenåStien), which follows the Gudenå River all the way from its source to where it flows into Randers Fjord.
