Gyllingnæs
The Gyllingnæs peninsula is located south of Odder at the mouth of Horsens Fjord. You can walk along the peninsula's western shore to the tip at Kalsenakke, where a stunning view of the East Jutland archipelago awaits.
The big peninsula in Horsens Fjord
South of Odder lies a vast rural landscape. The village of Gylling marks the entrance to this peaceful and, for many, undiscovered peninsula. Most of the area is covered by fields and farmland, and with no villages along the way, it offers a tranquil and immersive experience whether you are walking or cycling. A large part of the peninsula is owned by Gyllingnæs Manor, which is situated on the south-western coast, offering delightful views to the southwest.
On a hike along the coast
From the village of Lerdrup, a gravel road leads south along Lerdrup Bay. A small car park is located near the westernmost point of the peninsula. Here, the water is very shallow, and while it is technically possible to wade across to the nearby island of Alrø, it is not recommended for safety reasons. Instead, begin your coastal walk here towards the southern tip of Gyllingnæs, Kalsenakke. The terrain is mostly stony beach, so appropriate footwear is essential. In return, you will be treated to beautiful scenery and breathtaking views. Along the way, you will pass the impressive Gyllingnæs Manor. For the final stretch to Kalsenakke, the trail runs through Kalsehoved Forest. You can walk along the coast on your way out and return via the forest path further inland.
The round trip to the tip and back is approximately 9 kilometres. The car park at the start is also one of the best places in the Coastal Land to enjoy the sunset.
It is not possible to continue along the eastern coast. However, near Horskær on the east side (at the end of Lilienvej), you can access the salt meadows for a short and scenic walk, which is certainly worth the effort. Please note that this area is only open from September to February, as it is an important bird breeding site.
A coastal fishing hotspot
Gyllingnæs is a fantastic destination for coastal fishing. Depending on wind and weather conditions, you can choose to fish in the calm, shallow waters of Lerdrup Bay to the west or out by the open sea to the east. Gravel banks stretch up to 100 metres into the water near the manor, offering excellent chances for a catch. Another recommended fishing spot is at Horskær at the end of Lilienvej.
Gyllingnæs Manor
The notable Gyllingnæs Manor is one of the most recently established estates in the Odder area. It was founded by the Englishman John Smith, who, according to legend, had a background in piracy. Today, Gyllingnæs is owned by the successful businessman Troels Holch Povlsen.
