Gyllingnæs

The Gyllingnæs peninsula is located south of Odder at the mouth of Horsens Fjord. You can walk along the peninsula's western shore to the tip at Kalsenakke, where a stunning view of the East Jutland archipelago awaits.

The large peninsula in Horsens Fjord

South of the village of Gylling, the Gyllingnæs Peninsula stretches out – a vast, rural area without towns and with a very special sense of peace and quiet. The fields, farms and open landscapes provide the perfect setting for tranquillity, reflection and nature walks – whether on foot or by bike.
Most of the area is owned by Gyllingnæs Manor, located on the southwestern tip of the peninsula with stunning views of the sea.

Hiking along the coast

From the village of Lerdrup, a gravel road leads you south along Lerdrup Bay. At the end of the road, you will find a small car park by the tidal flats – a peaceful starting point for an exceptional nature experience. From here, you can take a 9 km walk along the western coastline out to the southernmost tip of Gyllingnæs, known as Kalsenakke.

The walk follows a stony beach and requires sturdy footwear. You will pass the beautiful Gyllingnæs Gods and continue along the woodland of Kalsehoved. On the way back, you can follow a forest track slightly inland. The landscape is wild and varied, and from Kalsenakke you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the archipelago in the fjord.

Please note: It is strongly advised not to attempt to cross the tidal flats to Alrø – even at low tide.

The car park by the tidal flats is also one of the best places in the Coastal Land to enjoy the sunset.

The east coast and the coastal meadows at Horskær

It is not possible to walk the full circuit along the eastern coastline. However, at Horskær (at the end of Lilienborgvej), you can reach the coastal meadows and take a shorter walk in the peaceful landscape. There are beautiful nature experiences to be had here, but please note that access to the area is restricted from 1 March to 1 August to protect nesting birds.

A coastal fishing hotspot

Gyllingnæs is a fantastic destination for coastal fishing. Depending on wind and weather conditions, you can choose to fish in the calm, shallow waters of Lerdrup Bay to the west or out by the open sea to the east. Gravel banks stretch up to 100 metres into the water near the manor, offering excellent chances for a catch. Another recommended fishing spot is at Horskær at the end of Lilienvej.

Gyllingnæs Manor

The notable Gyllingnæs Manor is one of the most recently established manor houses in the Odder area. The estate was founded by the Englishman John Smith, who was rumoured to have a past as a pirate. Today, Gyllingnæs Gods is owned by the businessman Troels Holch Povlsen.
