Shelter site i Skablund Forest
In peaceful surroundings in Skablund Forest, this shelter site with two shelters offers a tranquil spot for an overnight stay. It is free to use and located just a few steps from the Fjordmino Trail on the northern shore of Horsens Fjord.
Shelter site by Horsens Fjord
Nestled in the hilly terrain on the north side of Horsens Fjord, between Sondrup Beach and Sondrup Hills, lies Skablund Forest. In the heart of the forest, you will find this serene shelter site, completely surrounded by trees. The site is situated approximately 50 metres from the Fjordmino Trail, making it an ideal overnight stop for those hiking around Horsens Fjord.
Facilities
There are two shelters at the site, each accommodating around five people. Each shelter is equipped with a fire pit and a picnic table with benches. Firewood is not provided, so you must bring your own. Behind the two shelters, there is also a composting toilet. Please note that there is no water tap on site.
Booking
The shelters are numbered 1 and 2. Shelter 1 can be booked in advance via this link. Shelter 2 cannot be booked and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. If shelter 1 has not been booked, you are welcome to use it. Please ensure there is space for others who may wish to stay overnight in the shelter.
Tent camping
You are allowed to pitch a tent on the grassy area in front of the shelter site as well as on the open ground across the path. In addition, there is a tent area in Skablund Forest right by the water at Sondrup Beach.
Skablund Forest is designated as a free tenting area. This means you may pitch a tent anywhere in the forest, as long as you are out of sight of buildings. In free tenting areas, a maximum of two tents is permitted, and you may only stay for one night at a time.
How to find the campsite
By car: Drive south on Skablundvej. At one point, as you pass through the forest, the tarmac road will make a 90-degree turn to the east. At this bend, you can park your car and follow the gravel road south to reach the shelter site.
On foot: If you are following the Fjordmino Trail, it passes right by the site, but it is easy to miss as it is not visible from the trail. Keep an eye out for yellow hiking route signs as you walk along the Fjordmino Trail. When you see one, you are very close to the site.
Around the site
Skablund Forest connects with Sondrup Beach, a small and intimate bathing beach located one kilometre from the shelter site. Very close by is also Sondrup Plantation, which features a beautiful, hilly forest landscape. By following the red Fjordmino Trail signs, you will reach both areas.
You can also choose to follow the yellow signs, which mark a side route of the Fjordmino Trail. This yellow route leads to Trustrup Viewpoints, where you will be rewarded with a scenic view over Horsens Fjord.
There are no shopping facilities near the forest – the closest places to shop are in Hundslund and Søvind.
