Klostermølle Campsite
This campsite for canoe travelers is beautifully located by the historic Klostermølle on the western shore of Mossø. A perfect overnight stop on a canoe trip along the Gudenå River.
Cozy campsite by the Gudenå River
The southernmost part of the Gudenå River is one-way for canoe travelers, who are only allowed to paddle downstream. Klostermølle marks the point where this one-way section ends, as the Gudenå flows into Jutland’s largest lake, Mossø. This spot is a popular hub for canoeing, with many trips starting or ending here.
A campsite has been established at Klostermølle, exclusively for canoe travelers. While the site has minimal facilities, it does provide access to a toilet and a fire pit with firewood.
Overnight stays at the campsite are free of charge, but limited to a maximum of two nights, as the site is intended for canoe travelers on the move.
A historic setting
The campsite is beautifully located by Klostermølle (the Monastery Mill), a former Benedictine monastery with a milling operation that later became a paper factory. Today, Klostermølle is a popular excursion destination featuring well-preserved historical buildings. The old drying barn from the paper factory is Denmark’s longest wooden building and houses a built-in birdwatching tower. Another building features an exhibition on the site’s history. There are public toilets at Klostermølle, as well as a picnic shelter available for visitors.
From Klostermølle, you can access a small beach area with a scenic view of Mossø. Additionally, a hike to the top of Sukkertoppen (The Sugar Loaf) is highly recommended, offering one of Denmark’s most spectacular viewpoints. Klostermølle lies at the foot of the hill, with several trails leading up to the summit.
