Juelsminde Havn & Marina

The Juelsminde Marina is one of the most charming and atmospheric in Denmark. As soon as the sun appears, the harbour comes alive with a buzz of activity and a warm, cosy atmosphere. Delightful eateries with outdoor seating and a range of exciting events help create the unique seaside setting that everyone should experience.

Juelsminde harbour is something quite special

When the sun is shining, people flock to Juelsminde Harbour. Here, sailors and campers meet motorcyclists, young families, couples on day trips and holidaymakers. No matter who you are or where you come from, you are sure to enjoy yourself at the harbour. And there are plenty of good reasons why. Here are ten of them.

1: Delightful eateries

On a sunny day, what could be better than sitting on the dock enjoying fresh fish or the classic Danish open sandwich known as a “shooting star”? Juelsminde Harbour boasts several popular eateries with outdoor seating, where you can tuck into fish cakes while soaking up views of the sailing boats and feeling the gentle sea breeze.

2: A hit with children

Near the harbour you will find a lovely playground where children can burn off some energy while parents relax with good food. There is even a jetty for crab fishing. Let the children catch their own crabs and see which crab wins the crab race. The whole family can also compete in a game of crazy golf – who will earn bragging rights for the journey home? Oh! And the town has an amazing Nature Playground which is ideal for both kids and the young at heart.

3: One of the best beaches of East Jutland

If the sandbox at the playground is not enough, there is an excellent alternative nearby. Storstranden is a Blue Flag beach with excellent facilities. It has fine, white sand, shallow, calm water and a bathing jetty. It is the perfect beach for families with young children, and lifeguards will keep an eye on the children from the lifeguard tower.

4: Top facilities for sailors

With over 10,000 visiting sailors every summer, this marina ranks among Denmark’s most popular. And it is well equipped to handle the crowds. Explore the excellent facilities listed on this page. Sailors and other visitors to the harbour are free to use the many new benches and tables with barbecues.

5: Dive into local history

The famous Danish frigate Fregatten Jylland was once based in Juelsminde. In fact, you can still see the frigate’s anchor on the dock. And the recipe for the famous fish cakes from the fish shop actually comes from the old ship cook of the Frigate.

The Juelsminde Harbour area is full of fascinating stories, many of which you will stumble upon during your visit. For more, pop into the Juelsminde Harbour Museum.

6: You can have a REALLY nice ice cream

No seaside holiday is complete without an ice cream, and Juelsminde Harbour offers something for every taste. Whether you fancy Italian gelato, classic Danish scoops or a soft whippy topped with chocolate sauce and coconut, you will find it here.

7: There is always something going on

In the summer, Juelsminde Harbour is bursting with life. Events and festivals take place throughout the season. A highlight is the Juelsminde Harbour Festival in week 28, featuring a bustling market, parties, fairground attractions and major concerts.

8: A taste of town life

There are several charming shops at the harbour, and just 100 metres away lies the town’s pedestrian street. Here, you can browse for fashion, beachwear, home décor and unique crafts. Juelsminde offers a diverse and inviting mix of shops.

9: Stay by the water

Even without a boat, you can spend the night right by the harbour. There is a well-kept campsite with cabins and a hostel, and motorhome pitches right on the quay where you can fall asleep to the gentle sound of lapping waves. Within walking distance, you will also find Hotel Juelsminde Strand and a range of private accommodation options.

10: It is simply lovely

Juelsminde is a scenic and idyllic town, and its harbour is no exception. It is tidy, well-maintained and welcoming to visitors. Surrounded by water, the town enjoys a special light that adds to its charm. Friendly locals and smiling staff complete the picture, making your visit truly memorable.
