The Heart Trail in Juelsminde
Experience the holiday village Juelsminde on this waymarked hiking route that takes you through the centre, along the coast, and through forest. The distance is manageable but can be split into two loops – the nature loop and the town loop.
Explore Denmark’s cosiest port town on foot
Juelsminde offers much more than its famous, lively marina that attracts crowds whenever the sun is shining. This hiking route takes you to many of Juelsminde’s highlights. The route is a 5.5-kilometre roundtrip. You can shorten it by cutting across Ringvejen, choosing just one of the two loops. Are you in the mood for a stroll through the town and along the coast – or a peaceful walk in nature?
Experiences on the route
If you choose to start at the harbour, you can explore the shops and restaurants while soaking up the vibrant atmosphere. From here, follow the coastline past the old ferry landing and on to Sandbjerg Vig Beach. From here, you will leave the coast and head through Tofteskoven Forest. Note that this part of the route may be quite muddy during the winter months and is not recommended in wet conditions. The forest is calm and quiet, and along the way you will pass the local mountain bike trail, Hotel Juelsminde Strand and the largest playground in this part of Denmark, Juelsminde Nature Play Park.
You will continue through town past the swan pond and along the shopping street Odelsgade.
Follow the route on a digital map
The trail is waymarked, although there are a few places where the signs are missing. You can also follow the route using a digital map on your smartphone. Follow this link to open the digital map (Google Maps).
Not done walking yet?
Back at the harbour, you can unwind with a delicious meal or perhaps a cold ice cream. If 5.5 kilometres isn’t quite enough, we recommend adding the walk to the tip of the Bjørnsknude peninsula. This hike also starts at the harbour and is 5–6 kilometres long.
If you are hiking with children, try the Juelsminde Treasure Hunt. Answer the questions about what you see along the route, and if you get them all right, you’ll earn a free gold medal!
If you like long hikes, you can start the popular 22,5-kilometre-long Coastal Trail Snaptun-Juelsminde at the harbour.
