In the old harbour forge, you will find Juelsminde Harbour Museum, where you can discover how the town grew from a small fishing village into a ferry town and popular holiday destination. Explore ship models and stories about life at the harbour, and learn how the railway and ferries helped shape Juelsminde.
Kids and adults can also take the wheel in the museum’s ship simulator and try sailing around Juelsminde, with changing weather putting your skills as captain to the test.
A day by the beach
Juelsminde is surrounded by beaches, and on a warm summer day you can relax in the sun at The Great Beach (Storstranden) to the east, Sandbjerg Vig Beach to the north or Strandhuse Beach to the south. The Great Beach, close to the marina, is the most popular and has the best facilities, including a lifeguard tower.
A walk along the beaches is a recommended experience at any time of year. Start at the marina and follow The Great Beach to Bjørnsknude, where you can enjoy beautiful views of Vejle Fjord and the island of Æbelø. You can continue around Bjørnsknude, where the coastline takes on a different character.
Which crab will come first?
At the far end of the marina, you will find Juelsminde’s crab arena, where the whole family can have a go at catching crabs. All you need is a line, a clip and some bait to tempt a crab into your bucket. Afterwards, place the crabs gently on the racing track and see which one reaches the sea first.
It is a fun activity for the whole family, and a great way to learn more about the little crabs living in the harbour. Behind the crab arena is the new harbour square, with a playground and plenty of space to sit and relax.
