Experiences around Horsens Fjord
See here what you can experience when you take a break from your hiking boots, bicycle or canoe on your trip around Horsens Fjord.

Archaeologist and author Jeanette has won several awards for her ability to bring history to life for a wide audience. Jeanette has lived in Horsens since 2010.
What makes Horsens special?
“Horsens is the coolest place we’ve ever lived. We moved here without knowing much about it and were completely blown away. First and foremost by the magnificent nature, which for us is right outside our front door with both coast and forest and, not least, Horsens Fjord. At the same time, we have the city with all its offerings. It’s the perfect combination. In Horsens I became an adult, and this is where we’re staying.”
What are your greatest experiences in Horsens?
“It comes back to nature again. I’m a cold water swimmer, and a couple of years ago I went swimming in minus 20 degrees. It was a clear and completely calm morning, and we had to break a hole in the ice to get in. It was magical. In addition, my regular runs and bike rides in the nature north of the fjord are always an experience. Suddenly there’s a sea eagle above your head or seals resting on the shoreline.
I also want to highlight the concert with The Weeknd in 2023. That was huge. It’s amazing to just get on your bike and roll into the city and experience a world-class name of that caliber.”
What do you always recommend to visitors in Horsens?
“The bike trip around Horsens Fjord. Our children are now old enough to cycle, and we’ve done the whole trip with the bike ferry from Alrø and an overnight stay on Hjarnø. Again, it’s an example of what the surrounding nature can offer, and the adventure begins as soon as you leave the city.
As a history buff, I also recommend paying attention to the many traces history has left in the landscape. In Stensballe, for example, there are burial mounds from the Bronze Age, stone dolmens from the Stone Age, and remains of an old Medieval castle.”
