Farm shops and local food producers

At Fru Møllers Mølleri near Odder, you will find much more than a traditional farm shop. With its own bakery, butcher's shop and ice cream dairy, the farm shop offers a wide selection of quality ingredients and specialities – all produced on site. Pick up some meat for dinner, freshly baked bread and cakes from the bakery, or treat yourself to a delicious homemade ice cream. You can also enjoy a meal in the restaurant or grab a farm-style hot dog to go. And if you are visiting with children, do not forget to pop into the stables to say hello to the animals.

Would you like to know a little more about where your meat comes from? At several places across Kystlandet, you can buy meat directly from farms and local producers. There is plenty to choose from: Try goat meat from Farm Living, discover locally produced meat at Bjerre Kød, buy quality pork from Troldgaarden or organic beef from Hanstedholm. At Fru Møllers Mølleri, you can visit the farm's own butcher's shop, while Tolstrup Æbler, despite its name, also sells lamb from its own animals. Explore the local producers and find something delicious for your dinner table.

As the fruit ripens during summer and autumn, there are several places across Kystlandet where you can pick your own. Fill your basket with strawberries and other sweet berries, or wander among the fruit trees in search of ripe apples, pears and plums. The selection varies with the season, and there is something special about picking your own fruit and taking it straight home.

At Uldum Mill, flour is still milled in the old working mill. You can buy flour to take home from the museum shop, so you can not only experience the history of the mill but also get a taste of it. A wide variety of flours and grains are produced here. On the island of Hjarnø, the milling tradition is also kept alive at Vestergaard Mølleri, which produces and sells flour and other grain products.

Have you ever tried wine from East Jutland? In the fields near Horsens Fjord, Brandbygegaard grows its own grapes, which are turned into sparkling wines and other varieties at the farm's winery. Production is small-scale, with a focus on organic methods and local ingredients. The farm also produces cider and spirits. You can also sample locally produced wines from other small wineries in the area.

With fjords and coastline being such a natural part of Kystlandet, there are, of course, plenty of opportunities to take some fresh fish home with you. Visit the area's fishmongers and smokehouses, where you can explore a tempting selection of fresh fish, smoked seafood and other specialities from the sea. At some places, you can also sit down and enjoy your fish while taking in views of the harbour and water. A delicious fish dish by the waterfront with a chilled glass of white wine, or a fishcake snack to go, perfectly captures the spirit of Kystlandet.

The smell of freshly baked bread is hard to resist. People travel from far and wide to visit GROFT, the sourdough bakery in Saksild, where great bread and skilled craftsmanship take centre stage. Across Kystlandet, you will find several other bakeries where special care goes into making sourdough bread, crispy crusts and delicious baked goods. Pick up a loaf to take home, or make a visit to a local bakery part of your trip.

Freshly dug potatoes with soil still on them, crisp vegetables and the freshest seasonal produce. Across Kystlandet, small local producers grow vegetables that you can buy just a stone's throw from where they were grown. The selection naturally follows the seasons, so the produce available in farm shops and roadside shopstalls changes throughout the year. Visit Det lille Økori, for example, which specialises in mushrooms and microgreens but also offers a wide selection of seasonal vegetables.

Kystlandet is home to several small breweries where brewers experiment with flavours, ingredients and different styles of beer. From classic beers to more unusual varieties, these small-scale breweries offer plenty of room for creativity and skilled craftsmanship. Some beers are available in local shops or even roadside stalls, while other breweries need to be contacted directly. For example, you can enjoy beers from Stormgaarden at the owners' café, Det Gamle Posthus, on the island of Tunø. You can also meet some of the local brewers at the large annual Beers Behind Bars event in Horsens. We also recommend a visit to Øl2Go in the heart of Horsens, where you will find a wide selection of speciality beers to suit every taste.

At Vejlskovgaard Mælkeri, you can discover the journey milk takes from cow to fridge. Here, you can fill your own bottle with fresh milk from the farm's milk vending machine and take it home with you. You can also visit the cowshed and say hello to the cows that produce the milk. A lovely experience for children and adults alike, offering a glimpse into life on a modern dairy farm.
