Facts about Tunø
- Tunø covers an area of 3.5 km² and has approximately 8 kilometres of coastline.
- The island is home to around 75 permanent residents.

The village
Tunø By is the island's natural meeting place and full of authentic island charm. Narrow streets wind between beautifully preserved half-timbered houses, hollyhocks and colourful cottage gardens. Here, you will find the local village shop, places to eat, a gallery and bicycle hire.
Life moves at a gentle pace, and because the island is car-free, you can wander around in peace and enjoy the unique atmosphere. At the heart of the village stands the church with its distinctive lighthouse, which has become one of Tunø's most recognisable landmarks.
The cliffs
Tunø's coastline is wonderfully varied, but its most distinctive feature is the surprisingly steep cliffs. At both Sønderklint on the southern coast and Nørreklint in the north-west, you can see how the sea has shaped the landscape over centuries and enjoy sweeping views across the Kattegat from the grassy clifftops. The cliffs are also home to a rich variety of birds and plant life, giving Tunø a more dramatic landscape than you might expect after strolling through the island's charming village.
The harbour
Tunø Harbour is the island's lively gateway and a welcoming meeting place throughout the summer. This is where both the ferry and visiting yachts arrive, and you will find a place to eat as well as relaxing seating areas with lovely views across the Kattegat. Children can let off steam in the playground, while the beach next to the harbour offers excellent opportunities for the whole family to enjoy a swim.
