Norsminde - experiences and harbour atmosphere

Photo: Destination Coastal Land

Crabbing, delicious fish meatballs and ice cream by the water are calling you. Norsminde is a magnet when the weather is good. Cosiness and history are paramount at the small harbour town. Take the family for a few hours of fresh air and maritime charm

Harbour hygge in the middle between fjord and sea

Since the 13th century, boats and ships have docked in the small harbour at the entrance to Norsminde Fjord. Throughout this time, the harbour has served as an oasis for sailors, passers-by and tourists. For hundreds of years, the area’s lifeblood has been the royally privileged inn, which is still open to this day. In addition to beautiful inn stays, Norsminde Kro offers both high-level cuisine, popular dining experiences and an ice cream parlour with homemade Italian ice cream

Did you know that Norsminde Kro dates back to 1693? Today, Norsminde Kro is one of Denmark’s gastronomic heavy weights. The ingredients for Brasseriet and Restaurant Près are often sourced locally. The meat comes from Solbjerg, the fish from the fjord and the berries from their own fields. Among the local suppliers are Brandbygegaard and Eco Ged & Grønt.

Fancy a stroll along the harbour quay?

An important part of the Norsminde experience is a walk along the entrance to the fjord and out to sea. Near the bridge, and in the first row to the water’s edge, you will pass Norsminde Fiskehus, which is a combined place to eat with outdoor serving and a fish shop. If the mood is right, settle down on the terrace and enjoy a Danish open sandwich with some cold drinks. We recommend that you pop into the shop and buy one of their famous fish meatballs as a snack as you move on. There is a picnic house where you can enjoy it. The crabbing bridge on the harbour is popular with the family’s youngest. So tie a little bait on a stick and see if you can get crab meat for the family dinner. You can borrow life jackets at the harbour. If you continue along the water’s edge you will come out around the tip of the landscape, Kysing Næs along grass trails. You may want to make the trip back to the harbour inland through the town’s holiday home area

Norsminde er også et populært udflugtsmål for motorcyklister. Her kan du tage en pause fra farten, komme ned i gear, fylde maven og nyde den maritime stemning.

The overlooked fjord

Norsminde Fjord - if you are not local, you may not know it. But it’s beautiful, nonetheless. You can’t sail into the fjord, and you can’t get down to it on foot. It is popular for kayaking - if you do not have a kayak yourself, then Odder Museum sometimes arranges kayak trips on the fjord

We also recommend a bicycle ride around the fjord through a peaceful, agricultural area, where there are several places with fantastic views of the fjord. In general, Norsminde is a good destination for cycling, and the Culture Ring and National Cycle Route 5, and the East Coast Route, pass through the town. If you need a bicycle, you can hire one from nearby Saksild Strand Camping

Have a game of miniature golf before heading home

At the harbour on the north side of the inlet there is outdoor fitness equipment that you are welcome to use. If you follow the water on foot, you will reach the lovely Ajstrup Beach, which offers good opportunities for a dip in the water. Here by the beach is CampOne Ajstrup Strand campsite, which among other things, has a big roofed swimming pool with a jacuzzi, and a nice miniature golf course, as well as various games and playgrounds that guests are allowed to use.
