Are you up for island hopping in Horsens Fjord? Start the cycle trip in Horsens and cycle north around the fjord out to Alrø and across Hjarnø. Along the way, you will even get out sailing on the charming little bicycle ferry.
Are you ready for 52 km filled with beautiful scenery, as well as a lot of big and small sights? It may sound like a lot, but once the pedals are at full speed and fjord air in your hair, the kilometres whizz by.
Take the train to Horsens or park at Horsens Railway Station. From here you can follow the signposted Horsens-Odder Railway Path, which takes you through the centre of Horsens and towards the water.
First you pass the old industrial harbour, town beach Langelinie and along the Hussodde Path to Husodde Beach. The Husodde Path along the coast in Horsens offers fantastic views of the fjord and a lovely child-friendly cycle path. Husodde Beach is a favourite excursion for locals. It has a lot to do with the mini golf course at Horsens City Camping and the abundance of lovely summer atmosphere. If necessary, take a break here, dip your toes in the water from the jetty and have an ice cream in the sun.

You will then move on to the magnificent, wooded and hilly natural area at Sondrup Bakker. Here on the north side of the fjord you mainly drive on paths and dirt roads, so the trip is suitable for families with children.
Now head south and over the dam to the island of Alrø. Idyllic Alrø is known for its places to eat, giant tartlets and genuine Morten Korch vibe. Here you should stop for a great dining experience overlooking the fjord. For example, you can eat in an old pig stable or try the well-known giant tartlets at Café Alrø. At Alrø Købmandsgaard you also have the opportunity to buy a delicious bison picnic to take with you, provisions in their deli shop or simply relax your legs, with a cup of coffee on the large terrace. That's life!
From Alrø, the trip now goes on to the neighbouring island of Hjarnø via the small bicycle ferry, that sails during the summer. It’s popular at the moment, so don’t forget to book! Explore Hjarnø and feel the beautiful island atmosphere. There are plenty of traces of Vikings on Hjarnø, and as recently as 2018, amateur archaeologists found a considerable gold treasure from the Iron Age.

Then take the Hjarnø Ferry to the mainland and the harbour town of Snaptun on the south side of the fjord. Here you can enjoy an ice cream before heading back towards Horsens.
Swing by Boller Castle on the way back and take a walk in the historic castle park. The rest of the trip goes through Boller Forest and via The Planet Path into Horsens town. There are in fact many more things worth visiting along the south side of the fjord, but you can’t do them all! Glud Museum, for example, is a must for families with children, and the Borre Knob nature area is an overlooked gem - even among the locals.
After such a drive, your appetite is well and truly whetted. Near the end of the Planet Path you can stop by Restaurant Flammen and enjoy their buffet at the end of a long day.
